The Effect of an Elective Algebra Teaching Course on Prospective Mathematics Teachers’ Pedagogical Content Knowledge

Effective teachers have knowledge not only of the subject they are teaching, but also how to teach it appropriately. To develop these aspects knowledge, faculties education include a number courses that address related skills. From perspective mathematics teacher education, teaching come forefront in recent years. The current study, particular, attempted test whether prospective elementary teachers’ (PEMTs) pedagogical content (PCK) domain algebra improved through attendance structured elective course. study was conducted according comparison group research design with 155 teachers. data collection tool consisted 20-question (APCK) developed by researchers consideration for framework Ferrini-Mundy and colleagues (2005). results indicated PEMTs who took course performed better than their peers, statistically significant differences various components knowledge. Given findings, some implications educators discussed.
